There is so much wrong with NYU, I don't even know where to start. Why is there even a suggestion that private school education is better than a public school one? In Europe, it is the other way around. The public universities have prestige, while private universities are seen as money making schemes designed for rich but intellectually challenged youth. Applications to public universities are extremely competitive and those who fail to qualify end up attending private schools. Take that NYU!

I agree, Luke: the fact that they predicated their little protest on the downgrading of CUNY is lame for so many reasons, but, as you said, this group does have a point. And NYU is such a disperse behemoth that it's quite rare to see (or to register) dissent in any form among the student body there. And speaking of "slumming it" at CUNY, this NYU prank instantly reminded me of the patronizing article from the New York Times last year in which community colleges were recast as a kind of incubator for "money savvy."

Another interesting point for CUNY/ Baruch is that 1/3rd of the adjuncts who teach in the Zicklin School for Business also teach at the Stern Business School at NYU. And you know they are teaching the same course at both schools...

Man, freaking NYU richies, don't fuck with CUNY! Given the right groundswell of folks like the CUNY edupunks, it will reclaim it's place as the open university it has a long, rih history of being. But for that to happen, it has to re-imagine how it shares and distributes it's limited wealth, and these technologies are the basis from which that can be built at such little cost.
